I recently purchased this item at an antique market, and cannot discern how it was created or find much information about it. I also had a difficult time making out any of the wording aside from "negro." I would greatly appreciate any info about this item as well as potential resale value. Thanks so much!

Looks like there is a name on the bottom left corner on the actual art part. Can't make it out though probably going to need better pics of it.

I have just added a closer photo of the signature. Thanks!

I believe it says "Gehr" but it looks like a "H" or "T" is on top of the "G".

Looks like a fashion illustration? Pencil notation describes it, I think, but can't see well enough.

Think "negro" is a descriptor for dress.

Stylistically looks like a print of an original from the 1900-1914 era

Yes, was hoping to get the word to the left of it, but...

It might have '89' on the far right.

I think the words are in Spanish. First word seems to end in o and "negro" is Spanish for the color black. After that may be "sucre."

Anyone else seeing a block print?

Possibly a reproduction of a period block print - notice benday dots in enlargement

Oh and the pencil notation is probably the framer's notes , i.e. mat colour etc.

First word may be the Spanish word for "revered". But if that was the case, I would have expected the adjective "negro" to be at the end, not the middle.

That's a very interesting piece; can see why it'd attract you. Execution very Toulouse-Lautrec. Where was the antique market?

I made a guess that the first word is 'revertrado' & find it is Spanish for 'reversed', which could apply to a print. Negro may have been ink color. I'm not sure the right hand word is connected.

I think it is the colour, negro, black. Black skirt, dress?
It says re- something -trado negro. Can't read the last word, but it is bound to be Spanish.

Not skirt. "Falda." Not dress. "Vestido." But, yes, agree, looks like Spanish. You know what would be helpful? Photographs shot from straight on, not at an angle. Including the back and a close-up of the signature (Gehr, as above?) in the left hand corner. Also, Jennifer, please provide us with the size. And, was there a frame when you acquired the work? If so, please include a photograph.

Maybe referring to the black outline?
