E. de Martino....real watercolor or print?

Italian artist Edward (there are different spellings though) de Martino (1838-1912).
I can't for the life of me figure out if this is a real painting and signature or if it's a print. I just finished taking it out of the frame, and looked it over with a loop, which still didn't help. The paper is bumpy, and the frame it was in looks old, and had board backing. The light blue signature looks to be the same color as some of the blue streaks
in the water.
Dated 82 (for 1882).
Anything else I can do to tell if it's a print or not? Thanks for your time.

After being removed from the matt it measures about 6 7/8" x just under 5".

 

Any method of printing I can think of (we can rule out ink jet and laser, I think) would flatten the textured paper and usually leave a plate mark.

I suspect it to be, as you think, a small water colour sketch.
