I found this trunk online, not my pics. It looks really old. Not sure if it was made to look really old. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Wish the pics were better. TIA

Hi. I'd say that's definitely an old piece rather than a modern repro just judging by the wood, wear and hinges. The decoration at the front look Gothic in style. Gothic came back in the 19th century of course, so the bigger question would be whether or not it's a 19th century "in the style of" piece or a good deal older.

It is Gothic Revival, so 19th or even early 20th century. It has had a hard life, but will look beautiful after a bit of tlc.
If you want to buy it, make sure it has no woodworm, and haggle for a very low price.

Yep, 19th century with a "linenfold" motif on the front.

..and the lid-lifter mechanism on the right is a later addition.

The design is based on a really old chest (17th century) but I agree with Ghopper, 19th century.
It's still an antique chest, just not a period one. Linenfold carving was popular as decoration in the 14th-17 centuries. It originated in Flanders but most European countries had their own versions of this decoration.
