Featured Tiffany & Co Owl Silver Bottle - information please

Hi,
Regardless of the maker, it is a Beautiful perfume bottle! The Silver Work, meticulous attention to detail and patina make the bottle a true treasure. IMHO.
In 1867, at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, Tiffany's became the first American firm to win an award for excellence in Silver.

A comprehensive list of mark variations can be found in Charles H. Carpenter's book, "Tiffany Silver."
If the bottle had been made in Taxco, I would have attributed it to William Spratling. Of course, that is fanciful wishing. IF Spratling had created the Owl Perfume bottle, it would be worth a small fortune. LOL.

925-1000.com is a fantastic reference for silver hallmarks, they have Tiffany marks from 1848-now.

 

I agree. And I commend the compilers for their wonderful job, it was quite an endeavour. But when consulting the site you have to bear in mind that it is very extensive, and when information is that extensive, mistakes will be made. I have found a few over the years. Many other sites just copy the information on 925-1000.com, so those mistakes keep turning up everywhere.

 

As a preliminary search I found it a great place to start, as with any research double and triple checking facts is important.
