1990s Fiestaware question

Recently purchased an unused box of Fiestaware for cheap, exactly like the set in this closed auction:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiesta-by-H...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Question. The cup in my group of 5 has sort of some tiny bumps or unevenness inside one part of the cup, clearly part of manufacturing since glaze is perfect and the set appears unused. Don't have a photo right now, but can post if needed.

Just curious if anyone is familiar with the reissued Fiestaware from the 1990's and whether this kind of thing was common. (And how to describe, if so.)

    Thanks.

They are usually called "glaze faults" or "glaze pops." This happens when air bubbles burst bear the surface during the firing process. It can happen to any era of porcelain/pottery. However, you usually don't see it on newer items because of improved manufacturing processes.

Thank you. That is probably what is going on. The spots are completely covered with glaze, so nothing is popped or open, just very small bumps on the one side of the cup. Was a little surprised to see it in such a modern set. Hopefully won't be a big deterrent to resale.

    Nice find!
I found and sold some of that apricot fiesta ware years ago and loved the color.

    Hi,
HlC used to destroy "seconds" but now they sell them in large lots at their outlets. Getting a second in the old stiff is rare, now a days it is pretty common. People used to sell the "seconds" openly but now it is buyer beware.

Not unusual. I have sold a fair amount of modern Fiesta purchased on the secondary market with such issues. I don't know the source but much has never been used. They very well could be seconds. Has not hampered my ability to sell but I sell at about 1/2 or less of current retail prices.
