Still nice though. Do give it a wash.

 

Don't immerse that. A damp brush is about right. Water kills rhinestones if it gets to the paint on the back.

 

I know it's heresy, but I've actually washed these. With care, admittedly, and the judicious and immediate use of a hairdryer.

 

I sent one costume brooch through the washing machine, but it was an acrylic catseye one. It survived somehow.

 

I don't use a machine for these - albeit I do have an ultrasound cleaner for some things. I hold them in one paw, use a toothbrush, washing up liquid and warm to hot water and then shake like mad. The brooch I mean.

I do also use the old trick of window cleaner spray and a toothbrush.

 

Sounds about right.

 

The damage will not happen right away - do not get rhinestones wet!!!!

I use a soft toothbrush with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it, then dry immediately with a hair dryer. The alcohol evaporates much faster than water and that minimizes the possible damage.

Especially with earrings the alcohol is key. Women used to get dolled up and last thing use hairspray. The gunk I have found on clip earrings
