    I was looking for a forum to get help identifying a couple of items I have from my grandparents. I am a carpenter in Arizona with no expertise in antiques so cannot add anything to the conversation. If this is the wrong path to go down just let me know.

    Welcome! Many things discussed are not antiques so ask away! A carpenter could probably shed some light on some things too!

    Thank you so much for the welcome. The first item is a wood plate/bowl which is beautifully carved. My grandparents were missionaries for a year in Ethiopia and Madagascar in the 1950s and were given gifts when they left and also bought items in their travels. I have a closer photo but is over 1 mb. Second is a powder horn with what looks like an ironwood stopper and thin embossed leather wrap and strap. I did not see any similar styling on line. Does not really look used and I wonder if it may be a souvenir rather than original.

    @alchord.
    You would do better to start a new thread in the Antique Discussion forum for your two items.

    You can put both in your question.

    I would guess the plate is from Madagascar, but you will get more eyes on it if you start a new thread. Please click on 'full image' when you post photos.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Welcome, @alchord ! Clutteredcloset49 and Any Jewelry made some good suggestions. Your questions will have better visibility if you post in the Antique Discussion forum that is located on the listing page of all the forums on this site. Not everybody checks this Introductions section. And people like to help!
