It's beautiful to me and it is African American painting. The storage the painting came out of was a collector of black art. There's a lot of Black art in the storage,I just don't know all the artist. Some I know, but she has many items I know nothing about.

Maybe the right hand panel of a triptych?

That's what I thought too. antiquelover, have you looked through the entire storage lot? It is like we are only looking at part of the story, two of the children don't have faces, and the positioning of the figures suggests something to the left of this panel.
I don't know about African American, it looks more like famine in a third world country. Maybe in the Indian subcontinent, in a tribal part where elderly women's upper bodies weren't covered.

It almost looks like a progression, baby to toddler to child. Maybe there is a teenager and adult if there is another panel or two or three.

Nice thoughts about progression, SIS and I think you could be right!

I love it. I don't know if it's af-am or not, but it's very sensitively painted. For whatever reasons, it either looks never finished in the first place, which would lead me to believe it could have been a self portrait assemblage. The background is just color to surround the heads to make them pop. I think it's a very cool and successful painting. When it comes to art, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks! I love it too!! I've seen paintings like this years ago when I lived in Ark. as a child. It was the pain of children living with parents as share croppers waiting on food.I'm 70 years old, this painting remind me of that time.

Right! it's sensitively painted. As I just stated,I grew up in share cropper's time.I'm 70 and I remember seeing a painting similar to this one, children waiting on food from the parents, mostly mothers and grandmothers.

No,the storage is large.I'm still going through it.There's a lot of very nice items. Some I'm going to keep as I'm a collector of older African American items. But I do need to make a profit. There's so any prints, paintings, posters, pottery.I have to get my grandchildren to help on certain days.Been buying about 30 or more years.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like the way the woman's head looks, with the dark outline. And her hair reminds me of flames, a bit.
