I am like you, we are not all good at this stuff, which is why I never post stuff I would love some info on!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Scrapbooks were a very popular thing in the Victorian era (mid to late 19th century). This one looks interesting, to me. Thank you for posting, @jorie9699 !

Drawing & painting were part of a well brought up young lady's education. Your young lady was exercising her skills by copying from the work of others, maybe doing landscapes of her own.

"After Philips" means that it's a copy of his work.

An element of Phillips's work was studied by the artist.

This is a gorgeous assemblage! Thank you so much for showing us.
I hope to be back to review and help you do some research soon.

1818 for the first one. 1821 for the second (see how the 1 at the beginning has been made and how the number at the end is the same?)

Despite the abundance of poetry, sketches and copied art sample, I still think it is: student work. If there are no signatures hidden in the - well - they look like prints to me - then I give up. Thank you :singing::smuggrin:

I just want to know 'who' the student was. With so many signatures, ect...Its so confusing. I know nothing of history, and trying to find the significance of the dates, and deaths... then I'm thrown off..not knowing what is original, what is copied...what initials are true to the person that wrote in it/ drew in it...my head spins.

I understand your desire, Jorie, but we may never know. I filled sketchbooks with similar stuff. I painted paintings and printed prints. I doubt my name is on them anywhere. I will leave the same legacy behind someday. They are student work, not worth a fortune.
