too bad you need to sell something passed down in your family.....but...everything has to be somewhere..!

it's very nice , and normally we don't do ' price ' here......but wait for some of our furniture people to offer up their opinions..........

Without knowing more ....I'll venture that $250 would be a good starting point.

Thanks . I know its hard to let go but it has no place in our home. We are keeping some things . Just not even sure where we would put this in our home. Would really love to know age, where it may have been made etc. Thanks

With no evidence of a mirror ever being present, I think your piece is probably a writing desk, perhaps part of a large bedroom suite.
Value is determined so much by location, if you have an interested party, it may be a good idea to tour your local antique shops to see what price similar items are asked.

Added a couple more pictures. I will have to look for evidence of a mirror. Writing desk makes sense that is what my Mom used it for mostly.

Probably dates to the 40s. and agree about this being a desk. Here in my semi-rural Midwest location you would be looking at about $175.00 at retail give or take. Less at auction or other wholesale venues. Probably more in a large city.

Because I do not know the climate you live in, some of the following suggestions for using the piece may not apply in your area.

I would use the piece for "storage" in an entry hall or foyer or at a back door or "side" door into a garage to hold "cold weather" gloves, mittens, mufflers etc.

I'm imagining a fairly large ceramic/pottery pot beside or near it to hold umbrellas/"bumbershoots" at an entry/exit door.

Whoa doggies, I didn't wake up this morning thinking I would be typing the word "bumbershoot." :hilarious:
