Salukis are a fascinating breed. In my googling on Wikipedia I came across
'Although Muslims traditionally regarded dogs as unclean, they made an exception for the Saluki to live in the family tent.[7] They are considered clean by the Bedouins, and are allowed to be in women's quarters, while other dogs must be kept outside'.
Only someone who has lived with a Saluki would know how strong willed they are so I doubt the Bedouins stood a chance of making them live outside!. Fairly sure they were on the beds too.......

 

haha...gotta love doggoes. I'm on loads of lurcher/sighthound FB pages and I see Saluki's quite often. All the sighthounds I know are ... wilful.
Saluki's are so so so elegant. Luna...isn't.

 

I've always heard Afghan hounds are ungovernable.

 

Aren't they gorgeous though! Luna is quite a good girl...she doesn't actually do what I ask of her unless I shout and she's not used to that so it sends her doolally...she still doesn't do what she should really but she's eager to please. As long as it's her way

 

Years ago I owned 3 Salukis. They were just starting to become popular in US. I did show one of them to Championship. (But I was not fond of the dog showing world so did not continue with the others). And yes...very aloof and independent. Gorgeous dogs!!

 

I'm primarily a cat person, but any old fur coat that's on four feet will do most days. Common mixed breeds here start with retrievers, pit bulls, shepherds etc, but rarely sight hounds.

I'd be thinking manganese glass for that one. It lights up like a beacon.

 

We have a lot of Greyhounds around here since Florida is a racing state (ending 01/01/2021), and there are several devoted local rescue agencies - have to say, all those I've known were very sweet and gentle, and perhaps because of their background, pretty happy to just laze about most of the time. Have considered adopting one, but really prefer dogs just a bit smaller, and though some are good with cats, most aren't.

My ex raised Afghans in a former life, and loves sighthounds - he's always said his were a challenge to train, requiring a lot of repetition and praise, but once trained were great dogs. He still remembers them fondly, and says watching them run was just a beautiful thing to see.

Funny how so many threads meander off onto critter-related tangents...

It's the latest thing, after all. Have more than once heard someone on a radio program say that they were working from home, inside a closet for noise reduction & better acoustics.

 

I have so much stuff it shouldn't be difficult for me to find a dark place!
