    On which one?

Japanese and Chinese both use Hanzi/Kanji characters, which are so-called ideograms. The characters are not separate letters making up a word, but little stylized pictures that reflect a certain meaning or idea. Hanzi is the Chinese word for this way of writing, Kanji the Japanese.
Hanzi was originally used for religious purposes. The broader use meant that people with different languages could understand each other through writing.
Although Japanese and Chinese both use Hanzi/Kanji, the meanings can differ. And Chinese has more characters than Japanese.
