I only use a few and they work fine for me. :)
Many things are said that can be taken more than one way. It seems that this is usually the worst...first. :p

Oh yea, I remember that one. I took it wrong, because I hovered over it to find out what it was. And that was not what you thought it was when you posted it. LOL:)

I think most are just CUTE, and fairly useless....but the selection of a dozen or so can be (heck, ARE) very useful when time and space are of the essence. The art of writing has been truncated to fit our lifestyles and that is unfortunate.

When "we" first started communicating it was via speech and body language. The written word came pass and we early on discovered that it takes a lot more time to express a complete thought without ambiguity (why do you think that most antique letters take a full page to tell some one a good time was had by all, BUT!). When the telegraph was invented short-speak came into vogue (due to cost by word) and there was never a suitable way to express thoughts completely (though I think it was either Dickens or Clemens and his editor that had the shortest "conversation in telegraphic history, and I quote "?" and the reply was "!"). The telephone was quickly embraced because we once again had the spoken word replete with inflections and laughter.

Now that we have re-embraced the written word as a swift mode of communication we have had to find a method that would clarify a statement without turning a message into a book. Emoji fit that purpose. But as with so much in life, they have become "trendy" and I believe that many are designed "just because" and serve no practical purpose. That and dotting an i with a heart and other non-essential nonsense.....................

someone want to help me down from this pedestal? there's no air up here in my rarefied world of pontification and blatant ego boosting.................(insert appropriate emoji)

Sorry - I forgot the disclaimer on the above post - the basic premise is drawn from a short monograph I wrote for a publication some time ago. The magazine owns it now, so I can not quote it in its entirety................

See? you can insert a Cyclops, which is useless, but nothing to express APPLAUSE! - an emotion I think much more common than a panda bear...................

Emojis aside, I hear you, Komo, and sympathize. My basement is full of stuff for that reason. Though my Mom has passed, my basement is full of stuff she left for my Dad, and he gave to me, plus all the stuff he doesn't want anymore, and has no room for.

I hope you all know that I was having a bit of fun with the pictures posted.
Komo usually posts very nice pictures and as far as I know doesn't comment on poor quality pictures.
My apologies for implying that he attacks other's pictures.
