I have no idea, but it doesn't look like buried glass I've seen before. There is pitting on the outside as well, but it looks like it was made that way, though not deliberately.

Thanks so far everyone, you have really helped a lot.
I have found an email address for the Murano glass museum, I think I'll give it a try and see if anyone is kind enough to look at it.

I still welcome any insights from you all, though.

I'm concerned that this is being called "Slag" glass, it's a gather of glass with threads of different color wrapped around it then pulled or 'feathered" to form loops. The yellow bit is a problem, that color of yellow, solid opaque yellow didn't appear until early in the 20th Century.

Thanks Cherryhill. The bottles that I've seen that bear some resemblance to this one are Venetian. So you're probably right, it wouldn't be slag glass.
I am hoping that the Murano museum can tell me more, if they are willing to.
Cluttered was also concerned by the yellow. I know it was used in China in the 19th century, maybe earlier, but then this is not Chinese.

The Nailsea ones aren't slag either. I agree - this is not slag.

I'm a bit surprised at the comment on the yellow: facon de venise and other older glass, for example, has that hue.

If it is British, the person who would know is Charles Hajdamach or possibly someone like Nigel Benson or Andy McConnell. Charles gets swamped with id requests, so doesn't, but it might be worth asking the Stourbridge Museum once it reopens. Your best bet is probably the Glass Messages board, they all hang out there.

Yes, the uneven feathering and the thickness of the glass threw me a bit off scent;)

The glass itself reminds me of nothing so much as Italian-made African trade beads. The flaws or impurities in the glass were common in those, as is the weathered finish. That may or may not be relevant, but it does make me wonder.
