Here those rings turn up after fields have been ploughed, but the depth would be different in different areas of course.
There are many rings like that to be found here in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries, but no doubt there are also fakes on the international market. Not that these rings are valuable, so you won't get much for the work you put into faking it. Which makes me think that the fakes are made in cheap labour countries like Turkey, the current capital of fake jewellery.;)

There is definitely a torrent of fake engraved gems meant to look like antiquities coming out of East European & Baltic countries. Suspect we've seen the last of this guy.*

He just doesn't (want to) understand it, so he keeps 'defending' himself. We are just a nasty bunch, who won't condone his illegal actions.

He said he got 3 ticks on his back doing it. Doesn't sound much like a plowed field, not from what I know of ticks. Afraid outrage may encourage rather than deter him. It's clear education & moral suasion are not helpful.:rolleyes:

No it doesn't. Could have been anywhere. I used to collect interesting looking stones on the heath and in the forests around here when I was little, only to find out years later that some were actually Stone Age tools. Others were 15th-16th century pottery shards.

Ticks can drop out of trees and land on your hair and body, maybe he walked through a tree wind break before entering the field.

Think I know a bunch of people who would like to drop ticks on him. Three on the back suggests to me he got them while spending time bent over forward.
