    Hey Guys,

I know I have been asking a few questions so I thought I would just share some of my favourite pieces. I buy things because I like them, and rarely pay more than a few dollars for anything. These two pieces were $3AUD each. From what I can tell from my internet research they are Art Deco style and are known as Pierrot Harlequin Mimes. I have found a few examples of the round jar but none of the rectangular one. The bottom of the round jar reads "Tiste Seller by Sigma" and the bottom of the rectangle one reads "TWI Japan". Let me know what you guys think, I know I like them :)

Take care guys and thanks again from Australia.

    Jason.

Fairly modern, 1970s on, probably. The Commedia del Arte has no place in Japanese culture so they are explicitly made for western tastes, and western tastes for that sort of thing probably peaked 40 years ago.

Thank-you for the reply. Interesting to know about the Commedia del Arte, it also helps me with a few other things I have. Thank-you.

Sigma was a New York based importer/distributor of gift ware started in the late 1960's. Sigma was the gift ware division of Rockville International located in Garden City, New York. They eventually became part of Towle International. This company was a leader in Sesame Street and Star Wars products as well as many other figural cookie jars. They made many of the Muppet products including a Kermit Cookie Jar. Their 10 year collaboration with Japanese factories and American designers was magical. They closed in 1985 according to the Roerig Cookie Jars Book.

Maria, this is a really old thread, but I'm sure your new info is appreciated.

I just thought I'd add that this is Sigma TASTE SETTER. There's a fair amount on eBay, most of it at rather low prices.
