    image.jpg Hello and I hope all are safe! Thanks so much for your precious help. I’ve got another pattern that I cannot find on Gotteborg. Any ideas on this mark?

    Looks more like a studio piece than a mass produced piece. Interesting.

    Be sure to check back people come and go at all hours.

    No I'm sorry, I don't have a clue.

    I just happened to open this to see if anyone had responded.
    Next time you want to tag someone, put the @ sign in front of their name.

    Maybe one of these people can help. Although I haven't seen Asian Fever or Mat for a while.

    There is also someone with cowboy boots in their avatar who might know, but darn if I can think of their name right now.

    Yes, that's the correct orientation. Is this the sharpest photo you can take?

    I 'may' recognise the symbols, ther are Seal Script (ancient Chinese) but would like to see a better photo first if I could.

    Correct orientation.

    To be honest I am not 100% sure of these translated characters.
    The first one is a bit varied to what I am familiar with, this is, therefore, the closest I can see, without actually holding the piece to examine in person. I'm fairly sure the second and fourth characters are correct though.

    I wanted to show the seal script versus the modern-day evolution of the character, sadly couldn't find a good seal script version to show here to represent the first top right character)

    These kinds of seals are read Top to Bottom, starting from the Right column to Left column.
    First Top Right Character =attend, look after, mind, look at, take into consideration, turnaround and look at, call
    [IMG]= = also, too

    [IMG]= 男
    = male, boy, man, son
    [IMG]= 利 = benefit, profit, interest, advantage, favourable, sharp

    Once placed all together, the phrase itself still doesn't translate well, which makes me think I may have a character wrong. At this stage, I don't think I can read it any better as is.

    @Couch Potato Wannabe
    So basically you are saying that this seal is a modern mark meant to resemble an older mark?
    Of which we have a few words to try and make sense.
    "Mind too the boy favorably"
    (Look at also the man ?)

    Thanks to all. So when all is said and done, am I correct in that this is a modern homemade piece that was given and older looking stamp?

    For me it's very hard to tell older from newer on some of these Yixing clay type pieces. I'd probably assume this is Yixing clay - even though the color isn't the classic "purple"-ish shade. I wouldn't assume this is new - and even though the translation of the mark is a bit cryptic - it could just be a hard to translate phrase that ends up being the name of the pottery studio/maker. Are there any small marks inside the lid?
