My wife got this lamp from her Aunt and know nothing about it nor do I. I guess her Uncle had done some "work" on it so I don't know if the whole thing is original or just the lower part with the brass and marble pieces. Shade is a cheap store bought one and the white piece at the very top is an add on for the shade to sit on. Cord is also a newer addition. I couldn't find any markings. Lamp is 21" tall.

I don't know as I just thought it was marble. It's really heavy. I'll have to look up alabaster. Thanks.

    Hi,
To tell alabaster from marble: turn to the bottom and make a tiny scratch. Drop a drop or two of white vinegar on the scratch. Look at it with a magnifier, if you see fizzing, it is marble, no fizzing it is alabaster. Marble is Calcium Carbonate and alabaster is Calcium Sulfate. Be sure to wipe off the vinegar so it does not stain the piece.

40s-50s alabaster lamp. Socket cover is on upside down and dangerous that way.

Ah yes, I see that now. My wife said her Uncle was a "jury rig" artist! Luckily I have a ton of lamp parts in my shop so I'll get it back into perfect working condition. And get rid of that God awful cord! Thanks!!!!
