Does anyone know the artist of this carving? I've looked up the disc number on Katalvik, but it does appear there, which I realize happens sometimes. I'm attaching a few pics. The disc # is E9-1603.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm about ready to pull my hair out... lol 20200529_215724.jpg 20200529_215813.jpg

You could try contacting Waddingtons. They handle a tremendous amount of Inuit carvings.

the number does not show up in my book from 1992....
likely an Inukjuak carver, and a newer carving..

Thank you! That was helpful... I Googled Inukjuak carver and Aibilie Echalook came up. I haven't found my carving, but there is a similar one. His disc number is E9-1647, not E9-1603 though. Do some of the numbers change? I'm aware that during the 70's they had a choice of using their surname... So much to learn.

The disc numbers do not change. That being said, carvers occasionally made mistakes and screwed up the numbers. The piece seems to be signed Allie. There are several carvers by that name but not with that disc number. There is also a carver by the name of Allie Awp but I cannot easily locate her disc number.

The piece is of decent quality but does not merit further research insofar as the identity of the sculptor would not add any premium to the value of this sculpture.

I should point out that the disc number lists are far from complete and if your number is not on the Katilvik site it often indicates that the maker did not go on to produce a significant body of work.
