Went to buy these thinking they were full sized chairs. Turns out they are for tiny people or children? 32” high. 636F5459-944E-4512-BB84-80FB479470A4.jpeg B7D72A7F-6A8D-4A13-BD69-11673D4CA4DF.jpeg 0CC0F899-AD2D-459C-93E7-89312676B6CF.jpeg C00DCC09-7822-447F-A06C-2915551BAC6D.jpeg 8251EBC0-464A-43BA-B0AE-B76013E81B46.jpeg DA0FB001-1283-4433-8B96-29F6196017D9.jpeg B9C9B620-DE1A-4110-A62E-DEB4F11C5059.jpeg Wahwahwah. They are also a bit shaky and smell faintly of animal urine. So that was a disappointment! I figured I would still throw a $20 at them and try to flip them.

Just curious when and where they are likely from? What type of wood? Proper style? I assume last quarter of 19thc or early 20th? Dutch? Georgian style?

They are both marked B43 on bottom of a rung. I assume this is the model number. Then on back left leg under the seat they are both marked B with what I think is then a C. This looks more like it could possibly be the makers mark. I assume they will go unidentified and it’s probably not important but figured I would post a photo just in case anyone recognizes the mark.

The marquetry is a little beat up but still beautiful. Overall they have seen much better days but still have a nice look.

I DO love all the inlay, or as you are naming it (the more up to date term!!) marquetry!!

Looks like very late aesthetic movement chairs, mahogany, into the 20th century. I've got a weakness for marquetry although I have seen other examples I liked better. This one is a bit too "modern" and abstracted for my taste, although many others will love it.

Thanks! I love all that Aesthetic movement natural themed fanciness. That makes sense.

    Are these considered Lyre back?

On most lyre-back chairs the splat is wider at the bottom than at the top, the opposite of these. So no. AnticStore-Large-Ref-69712.jpg

I don't think these are lyre-back, but the're pretty little things.

Thank you. They partly remind me of them, but not quite. :)

The upholstery is probably covering the cause of the odor. The material and gimp are not old. Strip it off and see what is under there. May have to replace whatever the padding is. I really like the little chairs. Barbara.

They could also be ballroom chairs. I would describe them as classical revival.

Edwardian - and they would go SO well with my hall settee, which has lyre details and marquetry!

I need to get it sorted out a little. Loose joints and it wants new fabric. Parents bought it when they married in the early 50s. It was always known as The Settee in the Hall. So that's where it lives.

Thanks for the advice Barbara. I’m going to leave any reupholstery to potential new owners. Once I realized these were tiny I became interested in only a quick flip.

What’s your general location? I would be open to a trade for a interesting small if you want them.
