We have this letter opener/paper knife , measures 8". It is hand carved out of wood. It has a pinhole at the end of the handle- which was either supposed to hold an image or a magnifying glass or something? If anyone could tell us more that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Or a page turner, equally likely. The image in the stanhope sometimes takes a hike, so it may just be glass now.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I've just never seen one in wood before! But in ivory, yes........Have a (I think) needle holder (missing a part) with a similar top and a minuscule but clear image of Mr. & Mrs. President Cleveland!! They're so neat!! Your wood letter opener is VERY nice!!!!:):):)
