This Lady measures 15.5" High. Is she German? What is she holding? Do I dare try to wash her?

German yes. Might not be very old. What is that company from the 1960s? Starts with "H" Heu??? Can't remember.

    Wash her -ABSOLUTELY.
I'd squirt her with a 50/50 ammonia and water, then scrub her down with a soft sponge and Dawn dishwasher detergent. Won't hurt her. The color is fired on. You don't do this with cold painted items from Japan.

Need a better picture from the side of the item she is holding.

    Clutterdcloset:

Were you thinking of Heubach. From what I can tell their Figurines have open bottoms. At first I thought she a milk maid but I am wondering if that is a beer stein.

    thanks for your help.

15 1/2 inches is pretty tall... did I read that correctly?

I would have thought earlier than 60's, but could be wrong. The numbers on the side look like older script to me.

Yes could be a beer stein she is holding. A close-up of that item would help as was suggested.

If a beer stein --almost certainly German. ;)

Yes that was the name I couldn't remember. But when I looked them up, I found they made figurines from 1880s - 1925.

I thought there was a company in the 1960s (possibly earlier) from Germany that made large figurines like yours and they were often displayed in glass domes.

And as Lucille said, she could have been made earlier than the 60s.

Beer Maid? She is quite pretty. Definitely give her a bath.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

What does the 3 9 53 signify then???? And whatever kind of container she's carrying looks like it's covered....stein or pitcher??

Looks like 3293 to me. Those pesky Europeans make their numbers in wacky ways. ;)

My guess would be around 1900. But there was something of a post WWII revival.

Thanks to all of you. The number is 3293, which I am assuming is a model number. I have seen numbers on other old figurines. There is a spout on what I am assuming is a pitcher rather than a stein.

Not Heubach (it does not have the Heubach mark) but from the same time period. The 3953 is a model number and unfortunately does not help with an ID. Regardless of whether it's a beer stein or a milk pitcher it's almost certainly German. As far as I know there was not a revival of this style in the 1960's except by the Japanese (Arnart did some of the best) and their figurines were not marked this way. The Japanese also would have used more pastel colors. I usually clean these with a light spray of Krud Kutter. You'll see the dirt just melt off. Then a soft going over with a toothbrush. Let her air dry. Should look good as new.

    Hi,
I use bathroom "Scrubbing Bubbles" and a nice long rinse. Do not use on cold painted objects. Really does wonders on the lacey dolls.
