Storage find. While going though my storage I came across this Ginger Jar.I'm not sure if it's Chinese or Japanese.Appear to be hand painted, has some type of mark on footed brass or bronze base and under bottom.Measure about 8" with top.Anybody know age or what the marks are.Is this Japanese pr Chinese. I don't think it is Chinese or Japanese.
    The metal base certainly isn't

Can you try to get a picture of the markings here?

That brown stamp on the metal underneath looks like it says ‘1886’.....and that metal base went on somehow, so does it come off somehow???

I thought Wong Lee or United Wilson too though not the usual marks. I'm almost certain it's modern decorator ware.

The style is Western, not Chinese or Japanese.

I have a lamp made from a Champaign jeroboam bottle. The metal base was actually glued on as was the top. Whoever made it filled the bottle with burlap. I wanted to take it apart and fill it with corks instead - more attractive. So far, I haven't been able to find anything that will dissolve whatever glue they used. This may have been glued on as well.

I agree that it is a fairly modern decorator piece, likely southeast Asian manufacture and maybe the shape is what some call a temple jar.

    Yes it is.
Now you can see that the mark is the same or almost the same as the one stamped in the metal.
Believe someone may have suggested that earlier. Your picture proves it.
    Thank you.

    No sorry.
I think it is a spurious mark meant to deceive.
