My body says the freakin' blizzard is coming, and it doesn't like it one bit.(grrrr) I did manage a thrift run today and found... $3 worth of craft supplies and an oven mitt. I had to buy the latter; it had a Michigan map on it and the joke was too good to pass up.

Terry - Did you live in Midland MI? We lived there from 1980 till 1983. That is how bad we wanted the hell out of Maryland after less than a year, we moved to Michigan!!!

Finally got around to dealing with the pictures for last Friday's finds at the long-anticipated "1st church sale of the season." Despite the rain, I managed to be within the first 30 or so through the doors and headed straight for their "antique and collectible" area.

Within 15 minutes I had picked up and paid for these 3 items. A Meriden Britannia japonesque creamer (or individual teapot), a 70's or early 80's Fenton glass rose bowl and a jadeite? glass whatsit (for a buck I had to buy it just to see if anyone can tell me what it is!)









Then I wandered the aisles of other stuff and spotted this 4th item on a top shelf in the "tsotchkes" area and for 75 cents I had to have it!




I'm going to start threads on each of them in their respective category forums. Not bad for less than 20 bucks!

I've already started the thread about it in PGP Forum, Komo. At least a couple "egg cup" opinions, already. I think it's way too big for your typical breakfast egg - since a sample egg from my fridge was swallowed up by the opening at the top. But maybe eggs used to be twice as big as they are now.

Evelyb, we are supposed to get rain here at the Jersey shore (the big scare is coastal flooding, but I am inland), and I thought rain, but it was a snow sky tonight....

Evelyb, you wanted to see the black earrings. I did a dumb thing, thinking they were painted wood, and ran my fingernail over the side.... it chipped a little... now I think I chipped a pair of Whitby jet earrings, not that chipping doesn't happen very easily with these things. Just me being dumb- what do you think of these? One top is cut into an octagon, one is cut into a nonagon, but I didn't see it until after I scratched the side and was photographing them. Sigh.... I looked at whitby jet pics, and most of them have scratches, nicks, etc. Unless it is bog oak. What do you think, guys? I have never found any of this. Set in sterling screwbacks.

King of Things, you wanted to see the St. Patty's Day thing I picked up, nothing special, $3, bought it for an Irish co-worker because it is green. It is one of those 1980s plastic gemstone pins.... I really like them. They look pretty good, but are very lightweight. Not in the best shape, but who is going to look at the pearls with a maginifier when worn?

 

Tonight I got about 50 8x10 glass negatives. They appear to be pictures of museum items in France around 1920. Furniture, tapestries, paintings, sculptures.

is the only one I have identified so far. Should be fun trying to image them all.

My husband was there when they were going to build the nuclear power plant, which I guess now is just rotting away.

It is actually a great little town & has some wonderful things to offer all courtesy of Dow Chemical of course. I just wanted to move it about 900 miles south.

 

They could easily be jet. They didn't invent screwbacks until the tail end of the Victorian era, but they were still finding bits of things this old in the backs of factories and old warehouses late enough that they could be old jet fronts with 50s era backs.
