Victorian decoupage vanity - real or repro??

    I don't know. I'm rather inclined to say someone repurposed this box in the seventies when decoupage made a comeback. I can barely tell if it is made of made of wood - from your pictures? How large is it?

    I don't think it would have rubbed it's own satin off, if the mechanism were original, but it could be.

    yes it is wood with very small tongue and groove corners.

    To my eye, everything about it looks 'right' for an early 20th century fitted box for a mirror, brush and comb - would guess rather than decoupage, that's celluloid...

    Celluloid makes sense. I couldn't quite put my finger on the plasticky material and didn't realize the celluloid process was invented in the Victorian period.
