    Hello again,
I got this egg cup in a lot of scrap silver. The only mark I could find is on the outside upper edge and was hoping that someone here could possibly give me any info on the mark and possible date? First glance I thought it is"008" but another angle and it looks like it might be "DO8" or "DD8". Other than melt value, might this have any collector value?
Thans again for your time and any help,

    Hi Carl,
I believe it is the 800 mark a little less than Sterling but still high. For some reason I am thinking Germany or Dutch. What is the name engraved on the cup? Looks like Lottie to me.

German or Dutch silver would have other marks in keeping with their national marking regimes, so I'm doubtful of those possibilities.

Name looks like Lotti (without an e.) Perhaps pre-1933 Italian?

Dutch silver is classed as 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade, that means sterling, 835 or 800. 800 grade silver was only accepted as a legal Dutch silver grade to support the Indonesian silversmiths of Yogya, etc. Even then Dutch silversmiths prefered their traditional sterling and 835 grades, they couldn't sell 800 grade in The Netherlands.

There are old silver items from Germany just marked 800, we see a lot of them here in The Netherlands through German relatives etc.
The name could be Lotte, a German name.

Hello and thanks for the responces,
After a closer look, don't think it is "008"/800 as in 80% silver. I found all the other items marked ".800" that were marked "800" were marked top to bottom on the sides of the cups and not "008"[upside down]. In my one picture taken from a different angle, you can see that the first figure is possibly a "D". I believe it may be "D08" or possibly "DD8"?
The name inscribed I believe is "LOTTI"?
Either way, is it an item for scrap or might it have some other appeal? Is it older than the 1950s?
Again, thanks so much for any help,
    Karl.

That ribbon band just below the top is early twentieth century.

Humans stamp things. I doubt if they always get the punch the right way up.

A silver egg cup is not worth much as scrap, it should do a bit better as an egg-cup.

Lotti is also a German first name, the same as Lotte. Both are short for Charlotte or Liselotte.
In Italy Lotti is a surname.

Polish it up ... humans, like crows, prefer shiny things.
