Age estimate please

    I know what it is, but haven't seen one like this in my lifetime (born in 1983). Can anybody guess an age?

    What is it? A knife sharpening steel? A skewer? Doesn't look too old -- 1960s or 1970s.

    Sharpening steel, Debora. Could be a bit older than your estimate. 50's ish

    No unmarked but that looks like it. I collect anything old and Irony so I pulled it out of a trash bag.

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    My Dad was ALWAYS sharpening the carving knives with one like that....he HATED dull knives.....said it was too easy to cut yourself with a dull blade!!!! I'd say late 40s and on......it goes WAAAAAAAAAY back in my memories!!!!

    Look closely in the area where the arrow is.
    If it is marked it should be on the steel.

    Looks like an unfinished wood handle. So I don't think it is that old. 1980s or later.
