A friend brought me this painting and said if I sold it on ebay we could split it 50/50.
I did a little looking and found that the artist sells:

But, it is really dirty. Should I just sell it as is? I am not going to spend 50 hours cleaning it with spit and a q-tip. It will probably cost what the painting's worth to have it professionally cleaned.
I actually like it enough that it's been up on my wall for several months, but I have to tell myself that it isn't mine, so it's not really okay to let it hang around for years until I feel like selling it.
    Advice?

I suspect a buyer would prefer to use his/her own resources to have clean/restored.

I know Debora - it's that I still struggle to keep my hands off stuff when it's this dirty, even when I know I shouldn't touch it.

Do you think I should acknowledge how dirty it is in the listing?

You're right moreotherstuff - I'm just trying to reinforce to myself that I should leave it the heck alone.

Slap a sales sticker on it "as is" and mention it could use a cleaning... :joyful:

Some of what I am trying to see that maybe looks like dirty, might be RUB WEAR? Book, is this the case? Because THAT would have to be mentioned too..

I couldn't see the price on invaluable. Does the size equate similarly?

Def don't say it's filthy!! Lol

Buyer either will have it done professionally or be keen to clean it, just like you are :)

As always, full disclosure, regardless of condition. It's charming. Someone will value.

    Est: $500 - $700
    Sold: $550

It won't cost $550 to clean + it has a nice frame.

I'd be a little worried cleaning will mean it no longer matches the age or patina on the frame, but if you really like it, maybe pay to have cleaned and enjoy it for a few years...

Ha ha fid. I guess painters are often inspired by postcard-like views.
