    Hello everyone,
I am looking for any information regarding the bowl in the pictures. I have very limited knowledge in this area so its very hard to research this piece. Is the surface texture a certain firing technique. Anybody recognize the makers mark? Its a very cool bowl but I am lost...
    Thank you,
    paul

It says Italy if that helps. There is an expert in Italian pottery that frequents the boards who can probably help more if he drops by.

Holy cow it does say Italy... Lucille.b would you say this is ceramic or porcelain? Or something else? Pottery is not my strength. :p

It is this forum in particular where it is a good idea to mention the material. Either "ceramic" or "pottery" would equally suffice for your Italian piece here.

Reason I mentioned it, we have pottery experts and glass experts and if you want to catch their eye, put it in the title. Many folks just read post titles and only open if it is in their area so to speak.

The clay looks tan in color to me, I was of the impression that porcelain was always white? I would use the term "ceramic" but Lucille, can you please clear this up for me?

Beneath "Italy" (thanks Sis) it looks like "3/12".

    (Not "porcelain" but "pottery".)

I recommended "pottery" or "ceramic" because if someone has no idea of materials as they are new to it, they might be able to determine it is pottery at least. And if in the title, the potties will best see it.

:) Hey, you might have taught someone new to this that "porcelain" is always white.

    Excellent tip!

Porcelain is translucent; that's about the extent of my porcelain knowledge.

Unlike the body of a text, titles can't be edited.

(Well, not exactly. The volunteer moderators here can edit titles, but not something we burden them with too often.)

Don't worry about editing this one as you got about all the info you need.

Just an FYI for next time. And not a criticism in any way, just a friendly tip to get the best eyes on it -- esp in this category forum.

Thank you!! This place is amazing. I have never done a forum group before and I regret my choices. ;) I could have saved sooooo much time.

Titles can be edited, but I forget where the button is. It's at the top of your posting. Thread Tools? The edit option does go away after a while.

I would agree 1960s on a piece like this. The finish is also called "weeping white" - cousin to weeping gold.

I didn't think titles could be edited, but could be wrong. I remember in a post someone asking Bookahoo as moderator to change a title because they couldn't. When you push the main edit button you can edit the text all you want, but not the title -- thus Paul's question.

So maybe under "thread tools?" If yes that's a tip I didn't know. Thanks, Moreotherstuff!

Hi Janet! Can you tell me if porcelain is translucent while it is wet and before it is fired, then turns white after fireing? I've never used porcelain slip. Thanks.

I think it's the other way around. The unfired pieces I've seen have all been opaque. Porcelain goes translucent, or the good stuff does anyway, when fired. The glazes I used as a kid do the same thing.
