I have just inherited this figurine/clock and would like to firstly identify the piece and secondly find out more information about it.

I am new to this forum and quite unclear how to work it so if anyone can help i would be most grateful.

    Many thanks Tim35

Mass produced moulded figural group with what is called an insertion movement, a standard sized cheap clockwork or later, quartz, movement that could be used because of its standard size to fit a wide variety of clock cases.
It would have been a fairly chaep item when bought originally. A picture of the back would help. It appears to have western numerals underneath so more likely European than Japanese, Could be 1930s, could be 1950s.

Cheers for that. Its not Japanese I know. I think 30's - 50's is probably right. I'd just like to know the maker. PS The clock doesn't work!

I don't think there is any chance at all of finding a specific maker for either the movement or the case. Like most antiques, it is the type, style and quality of an item that matters, not which forgotten factory or anonymous craftsman that matters.

The ubiquity of branding in modern advertising has led people to forget that there was a time not so long ago when it was all more or less meaningless.

In general people would rely on their own knowledg and assesment of quality, or the reputation of the seller to guide their purchases.

The figures look German, as does the numbering in your last picture.

What is the brand name on the front of the clock?
What do the knobs look like that you set the time with?
Is this battery operated or wind up?
