I was hoping someone could tell me more about this plate. There is no stamp or markings on it and it is in excellent condition. My grandmother told me that her mother got this plate in a bag of flour when she was young. (My grandma is 87) I think the flour manufacturer was doing a promotion and gave the plates out? I can't seem to find any information on the internet about the plate. 20170102_193825.jpg

    Welcome, Whitney.

There was a time when merchants would give away such plates. Usually they are transferware, but most of those would have something identifying the merchant.. such as "Compliment from ________". You could do a search and see if you could find Antique Flour Mill giveaway plates or the such. One would have thought it would have the name of the company since the whole process of giveaways was product advertisement.
When I first saw your plate I thought it was from Germany until I read your comments. I am sure someone who is more knowledgeable will have a better answer. Good luck

With your grandmother 87, she was born in 1930. Her mother, your great grandmother, was born around 20 to 30 years earlier like 1890-1910. That was during the Gibson Girl era (c1890 - c1910). The woman on this plate is a typical Gibson Girl image. During that era the world couldn't resist putting an image of a Gibson Girl on anything like calendars, silver, china, etc.. A multitude of Gibson Girl plates were issued/made during that era. Like someone has mentioned many were freebies with advertisements. Those for advertisement/promotional purposes would have the ad on the back of the plates. This one doesn't have an advertisement on the back. This was used as strictly an inducement/come on to buy the flour. It wasn't that long ago that dishwashing powder like Dove had glassware in the boxes. I still have a couple of glasses from dishwashing powder from the early 1960s. Without any markings on the back, it will be nearly impossible to ID maker

Here are Gibson Girl plates on eBay, some with ads on the back:

    BTW, welcome to the forums.
