Found this painting Thursday. It is signed Weiss, dated 1961, oil painting on canvas. Does anyone know which dam? Needs to be cleaned. 18" x 22".

    Thanks,

Are you sure that isn't a bridge?

You got me thinking so I went back to the pics.. I used a red arrow to point out what looks to be a body of water in 2nd pic. First pic shows water falls.. I could be wrong, but do think it is a dam. In case it is a bridge would still like to know location. Thank you for your reply. Really appreciate it.

Tall building might be a state capitol. Have you researched capital cities set beneath mountain ranges? Can't be too many. (Assuming you're in the U.S.)

The first thing I thought when I saw the pic was Charleston WV state capitol building...but...the moutains aren't quite that extreme there, also, no dam/bridge like that.

That's a great idea. Thank you. Will do that. Looking at the mountains I would think out west, but will search for both.

In California, we call those "hills."

I used to go to WV quite a bit years ago, I agree with you on the mountains being too extreme.

lol That made me laugh. Well if that's the case I had better go back east if it is in the US.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Here is one to eliminate:
The Utah State Capitol building in Salt Lake City is very close to some small foothills. However, the building is domed and it doesn't appear that there is a dam or bridge close by. It appears that if you look at the Capitol building from a different angle besides head on, the much taller Wasatch Mountains are in the background, but not as close as in this painting. Oh, well.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

To me, it looks like a bridge/overpass, with a building to the left, and water down in front.....hope that's what y'all are talking about, 'cuz that's what I'm seeing!!

Edit" And yes, some buildings behind............

Are you sure it's in the US? Weiss is a German name. It could be along a German river.

I wonder if it's imitative of El Greco. See, for instance, his "View of Toledo"

I think you're onto something there. The painting you linked to...and other actual pictures of Toledo Spain show more or less the bridge and other elements of this painting. Looks like a match to me.

No, not sure if US. I thought it might be one of the capitol buildings out west, however, I can't find any capitol building which matches.

I will have to view more images of Toledo. I thought the buildings are on the hills in Toledo and, the buildings in the painting are down below. Thanks.
