I have eventually got round too taking photos of this plate. I say plate is their another name for this? Vae Victis was found as Latin meaning "woe to the vanquished", or "woe to the conquered that was easy though I should really read up on Latin. I cannot find information about the armorial or blue pattern on the rim. I wonder why there is no makers name or markings? I presume this is Ironstone and dated around late 1800s but this is only a guess. I look forward to any information as this has stumped me for sometime. 20170224_183308.jpg 20170224_183319.jpg 20170224_183622.jpg

Welcome carrs! I would try French companies. The fleur de lis is usually associated with France. The shape is more like a platter than a plate but you didn't include the size so I'm not sure. Tracking down these logos can be difficult. There were many fraternal organizations and not all their emblems are recorded. Companies would sign contracts to supply these organizations with dishes but as they weren't really a factory product for the public there was no reason to add a manufacturer's mark. I believe you are probably right about this being ironstone and also on the age. The trim appears to be transfer ware but I can't see the pattern well enough to say much about it. If you search blue and white transfer ware platters you may find something similar. Others may be able to supply further information or correct anything I may have misstated above. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

British, with that edge, clay and shape.Lots of our armorials used fleurs de lis. Mid 19th C, and made for a family with that motto.
