That cat looks like he just smelled the inside of one of those old subs after Bean Night. (Bean Nightmare?)

 

It wouldn't matter. Diesel and body odor alone would knock a buzzard off a s**t wagon.

 

It's not what you'd call pretty, but reminded me of Beano characters (Dennis the Menace et al), so I handed over $5. I was impressed that it was WW1 and nearly fell off the chair when I read " ... the 20th Century Amphora pottery figure created in a ‘Cubist’ manner designed by Louis Wain went on to sell for a staggering £8,200 hammer price". Of course that is too good to be true in my humble profit realm, but my other purchase, the $20, 1940s novelty Japanese spice set, suddenly paled.

 

Especially when you factor in all that testosterone. (whew!)

 

I love Louis Wain cats. He went insane in the end. Your little cat was made in around 1914 - or at least, that's when the design was registered. Be aware that there are some fakes out there. He's actually worth talking to a good auction house about.

 

He looks like he has one of those collars on to keep him from chewing & licking the bob-boo. Maybe the expression on his face is because of where the boo-boo is located.

...and another name to add to the list of things to watch out for & snap up if I ever see one out in the wilds.

BTW how big is this piece?

Here's some tool-related stuff I picked up yesterday; some may be vintage but most is fairly recent:


I think I now have the world's most extensive lathe Chuck jaw collection-there are well over 100 sets of all sizes in various . boxes. 3 similar things in front are "pillow block" journal bearings, two on left are NOS. Grey thing with oval top at rear center is a demagnetized. A cabinet very full of nuts, bolts etc. at right rear has tipped and begun to spill. It came from some factory, so each drawer has only one type of item in it (those obtained from homes usually have a few different items in many of the drawers.). A great many small hand-tools are out of sight in front of truck. I know what about 90% of them are used for but 10% will be a learning experience. The trailer contained a press by the "Air Hydraulic Company" in Mi? Which puts great pressure on a very small item, an item which remains to be identified.

I've wondered why they aren't strapped to the wall....

 

I also stopped by an estate sale yesterday. Saw this beauty hiding. Picked it up for $5.

 

I usually take more precautions but spent a lot of time strapping the tall, topheavy air-hydraulic press in the trailer so it couldn't go anywhere. If it toppled over that would have been a disaster. So the inside load was carelessly packed.

Is abt 12x24x4", abt 25 lbs. Kinda looks like 1940's production Art Deco case, and 110v plug with no ground post.

There in Ridgefield CT now, but began in the 1930s. This beastie was meant to magnetize and demagnetize screwdrivers and the like, is my guess.

 

Thanks, yes basic use is to demagnetized tools and non-digital measuring instruments. Some use them to heat steel parts before slipping them onto another part. I'm told anything digital or with magnetic storage needs to be kept somewhat far away.

 

One would imagine. You can use a strong magnet to wipe a hard drive, or at least make it unreadable.

 

This Wain cat is about 12cm, but there's a bigger one too, apparently. They are his "futurist cats" and were considered Cubist. I did read about fakes but am confident this is the real deal. Anyway, here's hoping ...
