Unusual markings ???

    IMG_20170216_212152.jpg Hi IMG_20170216_212224.jpg IMG_20170216_212249.jpg everyone i wonder if any one can shed some light on the origin of theses two trinket boxs. Thay have a floral and bird hand painted scene,. Really nice detail. can't find anything of markings.

    They're trying to be Satsuma in style, but look like hobby painted.

    I think it's about Japan and the words is Meiji.it is Japanese ear

    Assuming these are some kind of ceramic or porcelain? They look nicely done.

    @fanyi , do you speak Japanese? Welcome to Antiquers! :)

    If the mark says "Meiji", could it mean the Meiji period? (1868-1912).

    Yes, it says "Meiji," but has anyone ever come across a mark that just says Meiji on a piece of genuine Japanese Satsuma dating from the Meiji era?

    I wouldn't be surprised if this is contemporary so-called Chinese Satsuma, from China not Japan. Can't really say with much confidence based on those photos, but the way the gilding is applied looks very suspect.

    I can't speak japanese,I'm a Chinese,because the Japanese words Meiji look like Chinese words.thx.
