Hi, brand new member here so I apologize if this question has been asked. I have a really nice ring that just appraised for approx $5800. I am searching for the proper venue to sell (I know we won't get the appraisal amount) and not really sure where to start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you bring it to an auctioneer with an online presence it will typically sell for 1/5 of the appraisal and the auctioneer will get about 25% of that as a selling fee

Selling yourself online you may get half of melt value.

at $5800...there have to be stones there....
you need to be in a high end jewelry auction....if any, ( online or in your area..) & if you want to get the most $$$ , you'll need to be selling to an end user......which at that value.....sold by yourself......may put you in touch with some nasty folks.

Agree with both posts here but want to add, without seeing a photo the ring and/or understanding why it got such a high appraisal, it is a bit hard to advice. Is it an antique or newer? Signed by a known maker by chance?

Rings are a bit of a hard sell compared to other jewelry, but really depends what it is. If signed by a collected designer, that can make a big difference in sale ability.

I had a number of pieces appraised for someone a few years ago, all receiving huge appraisal amounts. What comes to mind as a recent sale, we had a stunning vintage women's 14K cocktail ring (unknown maker) with a large stone, appraised for $2K, very wearable. I had it on Ebay for over a year at $495, then $395, no interest, dropped it to $295, and finally sold it for $200, with Ebay taking it's cut, of course.

In hindsight, I probably would have done better selling it locally one-on-one, but finding the buyer...

I just wanted to add that antique rings are very hard to sell as their fingers were TINY! Getting one sized can be quite expensive as well.My mother has 2 of my grandmas rings that no one can wear,in fact,no one can wear my moms rings either!

Thank you everyone for the responses...its not that old a ring. Here is the info that I was going to use in a post.
Ladies platinum and 18 karat gold wedding ring size 6 1/2 with 1 marquise cut diamond and 12 princess cut diamonds, the princess diamonds are set 6 on each side of the marquise diamond. The marquise diamond is .82 carat, length 8.12mm, width 4.56 mm and depth 3.8mm. Depth percentage is 83.3%. Girdle is medium faceted. Clarity is I1 and color is H-I. Symmetry is good, Polish is good. Internal inclusions are [1] FEATHER. The 12 princess mounted diamonds weight are .59 carat. Ave clarity is VS1-VS2 and Ave color is G-H. The metal is GOLD, platinum and Stamped. 18K Yellow in good condition. Finish is high polish and weight is 12.5 grams. Style is stated as ENGAGEMENT RING. There is an inscription that reads "love honor cherish". This is a beautiful ring that we had professionally appraised. The value of the appraisal is $5800

Without a picture, we're just guessing, but if something like this goes over $1000 I'll be surprised. Used engagement rings tend not to sell for much. A GIA certification of the stones might push it higher.

that grade may be for insurance...which we all know is the high side at best...
I was thinking the stones alone could carry the day..
but ....the main one is still well below 1 carat......
    the flaw is evident...

    but the color ...is good....

    so........?

It's still a "good luck with that". Stones under a carat don't resell for much; the color is the only reason I went as high as I did.
