Not really sure what to make of this. Appears to be Lucite, tipped in what looks to be Sterling Silver. No marks anywhere that I can find. also cannot find any comparables online. Anyone seen something like this before? Is it mid century? Thanks!

Can't help either, but garter snakes do congregate like that.

I think it represents the artist's view of his in-laws as a nest of vipers.

It's an artistic representation of Congress!

Found this one on Pinterest with an original attribution to ebay as a MCM piece with a $160.00 price. No attribution otherwise. I have my doubts that it is MCM but suppose it could be.

Thanks Brad, for the link. I saw that too this morning, but the seller didn't seem to have too much information about it. That was the only close example I found. Still wondering where this type of item originated, and when. I want to say it's from the 1970s, is my guess.

I think 70s is more likely. Finding the other one shows that it is not one of a kind. Have you looked it over carefully for a signature or mark?

I'd just offer it for sale at what seemed a reasonable price and see what happened.

Well, the other one sold for $160 so this one is probably worth a bit more. Also, mine is definitely not brass-tipped like the other one. I'll offer it and see where it goes. I kind of want to keep it but my husband said NO WAY....hates snakes as well.

It reminds me of Dorothy Thorpe Lucite Candlesticks. Did she make snakes? Her mark is an acid etched T with two dots on either side but not everything is marked.

Hmmm. Thanks for the lead Mill Cove. There are definite similarities! Can't find any of her work with snakes, but who knows. Might take me a bit more research. I will definitely look into it.
