Featured WWI Cruiser photo? US Navy?

This is an old 8x10 gelatin print that's been hanging around since forever. She looks too large for a destroyer and doesn't look substantial enough to be one of the battleships. I'd imagine there's no way to know who she was. This is the best photo I could get; she's shown in silhouette, possibly by moonlight.

So dark but you may be correct.
Check to be certain Heavy cruisers and cruisers had 'cage' masts.
These began to go away around the start of WWII.
If I'm correct the Arizona had a new spotting mast and all the other battleships did not.
This has big naval rifles (guns) but there seems to be only one set fore and aft. Almost certainly not a battleship.

I'll have to keep digging. I don't have a WWI Navy connection, but if I knew who she was I could probably find where she's supposed to be.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like the photo... but don't have any information to help you identify.

Don't think anyone else had cage masts but maybe.

Problem is that things were ever changing to meet threats and they don't look like they did at lunch.

I came up with same answer as Rayo without first seeing it. About the only way to get a good answer is to pick key features then look for that combination in old ship photos. Anyway the only feature match I found was USS South Carolina class of two ships, BB-26 and 27, 27 being USS Michigan during WWII. There are two cage masts, two stacks, and large rangefinders atop gun turrets, seaplane cranes amidships. If anyone finds a closer match, let us know.

These ships underwent revisions throughout their service so even though one picture may look like it, another may not.
Florida and Utah look pretty darn close though.
