Terry and his carriage clock -- I have (almost) no idea re striking wrong time but --

(note this is not "technical" talk) in the last photo why is the round ring on the right jammed up against the middle pullout mechanism for setting/re-setting the time? Have you run the hands continuously around the clock a time or two? I know it's farfetched but could that ring jammed up against the setting/re-setting knob/pullout possibly be causing a problem? I don't ever leave my hand-wound clocks without "space" between the various parts. I know, I know, A-retentive all the way!

Tt's not actually jammed, it would be just clear of touching.

Anyone recognize the maker of this 'silverplate' vase for $3.

Attended the local auction last night. I wasn't going to go since 99% of it was devoted to ready-made collectibles and holiday decorations. Without much else to do, I decided to go down for the preview since they did have a stacking barrister bookcase. There were hundreds of collector plates, Dept. 56, Precious Moments, etc. Once I got to the preview, the was the usual assortment of plates devoted to Norman Rockwell, movies, etc.

I recognized the complete set of 12 of the Beauties of the Red Mansion plates from China. I remembered these as having some value so went back home to check since I only live a few blocks away. I was able to pick up the complete set for $36.00.

The auction moved fast and things were going pretty cheap. I know I could have bought a lot of plates for a buck each or less if I had wanted them. I just don't know a whole lot about most of them. I did buy a complete set of the 12 days of Christmas in carnival glass by Imperial on a hunch they might be good. Looks like my $10.00 purchase will pay off.

I do know a bit about Christmas ornaments and spied three lots that seemed to hold some promise out of the 50 or so mixed lots of Christmas stuff. I got outbid on the first two. The third one was near the end of the auction and the crowd had dwindled a bit. I was able to get this 16" diameter box full plus the ornament wreath all for $6.00.

Some Christopher Radko, a bohemian looking cut to clear one, and a Shiny Brite USA ornament.
    stuff998a.jpg

Some Radko - Shiny Brite retro ones and a large Radko in the middle.
    stuff998b.jpg

These are mostly Germany or West Germany. The one with the toys is Shiny Brite USA. The silver one in the center with the 4 bulbous portions is marked Poland. The cap is identical to the Radko caps otherwise and I see some are attributing these to Radko. Anyone know if this is true?
    stuff998c.jpg

The rest of the ornaments are mostly more modern. The lot does include some Hallmark Barbie and a couple other dated collectible ornaments but not really anything of much value. There are these two iridescent art glass ornaments I thought were interesting.

The barrister bookcase I went to look at was pretty well damaged but repairable. I bid on it but didn't go too high and got outbid. I did buy this art deco Chase chrome lamp for $2.00 and this turn of the century tin for $1.00.

Nice tin -- I love old tins!

I also think that Terry got some great deals in jewelry. Pretty things there...

Terry SCORED. And that aquamarine ring from the auction could be worth a fair bit more than the gold weight if the stones are any good and it's bigger than a size 6. I went out yesterday morning to a rummage sale that's next week. (duh) and then went out today to another sale. Picked up all sorts of good stuff, including 14k, for $40. A friend got two jackets although he doesn't know it yet, and I got a Japanalia (local designer, now out of business) shirt. The shirt alone retailed for that much. I'll have to get some pix of the other stuff.

    Terry,

    Your silver mark is: 830S.

Appears to be Norwegian(?) in origin.

    I too scored some gold...

Went to an estate sale this morning and purchased this 30 - 40lbs box of vintage "costume jewelry" for $70. After about 2 or so hours separating the good from bad, it turned out to be a pretty nice buy.

One 14kt gold herringbone necklace, three 14kt gold bracelets (herringbone, bangle & XO) and one 14kt earring (not sure of weight as of yet).

The larger bag is filled with approx 50+ pieces of "bling". Rhinestone rings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, etc. etc.. And a few American & Swiss made vintage ladies watches.

The box of junk jewels will probably get dumped.

Yes, the only mark is the 830S. I'd swear I saw the same form with a maker's mark last winter and seem to remember that one being Aase or Marthinsen. The only similar designs I can find online are by Lohne.

    Terry,

I have no idea. Maybe one of the silver folk will come along and help ID the possible maker. It looks like she cleaned-up pretty good.

Just came back from my jewelers to scrap the gold. He was unable to because his system is down and he closes at 5pm. But the total gold weight was/is: 36.9 pennyweight, witch is approx: 57+ grams.

Not a bad hit at all. I'm surprised there wasn't one piece of sterling in that entire box.

The dumpable junk jewellery could be given to someone with young children for the treasure chest/dressing up box.

Nice silver vase, as usual I'd not worry who the maker was, it simply is what it is whichever men in sheds made it.

Oh man! Sorry that happened Sharona! So unsettling :( Weird too, because someone rear-ended my car HARD yesterday with my children in the back. We're all fine though....that's the reason I bought a Volvo. Tore his car up...my bumper was damaged but luckily nothing else. Shaken up, though!
