A friend of mine came across the a piece of stained glass that she purchased. She believes that it was done by William Morris. Any additional info and an estimated value would be appreciated.

I suggest she do a quick internet search for stained glass pieces with confirmed attribution to William Morris; a comparison will prove helpful.

    Debora,

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find out much information, or value, on any stained glass pieces that he has done. While I am usually good at digging up info online, I wasn't too successful in this case.

    Debora,

Thanks for the links. I did come across those two pages during my search but I wasn't able to dig up much info on the piece itself or, what his work typically sells for.

She thinks so too! She is always shopping garage sales, thrift stores, etc. I didn't ask her where she picked it up from but she scored it for $50. She didn't know anything about the piece until she brought it home and did a little research.

She simply bought it because she like it. I was just hoping to find out some more info on the piece, and a rough value, to share with her. Hence, my post here.

Thanks Debora. I am just passing on what she had stated. Is there any way to easily tell who the piece is from? Thanks for the help!

I apologize. I just read her facebook post again and she believes the piece is done by Ernest Archibald Taylor. She continues to say that his work was based off of a poem called Two Red Roses Across the Moon, by another Scotsman from England by the name of William Morris. I got the names mixed up, sorry about that.

No. That is not her piece. She just obtained it yesterday. However, that picture of that piece looks identical to the one that she has. Thanks for finding that!

    Debora,

Thank you. Seeing that hers is in the exact same frame as the one that you linked to, in addition to looking different than the Ernest Archibald Taylor piece that you linked to, is it likely that this is simply a mass produced reproduction piece?

I know nothing about stained glass. (But that doesn't stop me from having an opinion!) Certainly wouldn't call it "a mass produced reproduction piece." It looks to be a period interpretation of a very popular poem by another artist. Perhaps an American as both examples -- am I correct? -- are in the U.S. With a bit more digging, you might be able to identify. And, even unattributed, I would think $50 a very good price.

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to her and let her know it may be worth getting checked out. She bought it because she like it and not because she thought it was extremely valuable. Whether is is worth money or not, she likes it. However, I am sure that she would like it a lot more if it was a $100,000 piece ;)
