Book, I STILL think it's absolutely delightful!

Don't kick yourself, Book. Trying to get all the tarnish out of those hammered divots is useless and unnecessary. And the texture of the dogs' coats should show anyway. ;)

The interior of the bowl, on the other hand, has probably accumulated so much dust and grime over the years, that the polish isn't going to get through that. When getting ready to polish something really bad, I usually wash it (maybe even soak it for a while) in hot soapy water with something like Dawn that attacks the grease before getting out the bottle of polish.

In picture # 4 Do I see an F on the left hand side? also on the right I see impressions that look like it could be a badly done hallmark?
    Could just be my eyes.

Bdigger - I don't think there are any letters or Hallmarks on the bottom. Here is another look at it:

So if this is an electro-formed piece, is it relatively new?

Electroformed would be .999 and usually so thin that it needs to be filled.

Book, I think this is the possible "F" Bdigger asked about: bottom of corgi bowl_LI.jpg

That bottom is just too crazy. Almost looks like glue residue, although I know it isn't. It was probably mounted on something I guess. It's almost like abstract art, every time you look at the bottom you see something you hadn't seem before.

yep that is it. doesn't show well in the new bottom photo though. Just a trick of the angle I guess,

    It looks a little better.
So when you were cleaning it, were you looking for marks?

I have found several companies that have made things in Sterling that somehow are called Queen Elizabeth II silver. She does raise Corgis.
Here are some I found. Notice the marks are on the bodies. For some reason sterling animals seem to be marked on the bodies and not on the bottom.

    One company's animals.

Thank you cluttered closet. I was looking for marks as I cleaned it. I have to admit, though, that I was not looking with a loupe. Somehow I am thinking that if the 925 is fairly big, any maker's mark would be large enough to see with the naked eye.
I had seen some of those Elizabeth II animals - they all seem to be Hallmarked.

Maybe I should be focusing on fancy trophy makers?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Waaaaay out in left field here, but are those 'hash' marks inside kind of random?? Like might they have been made with a knife.....like someone cutting up food......to feed a beloved pet in their hard earned trophy food dish????????:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Hey, WHTDIK?????? I do love it though!!!!!!!

Whatever it is, I really love it. The expression on the face is wonderful.

May not be Corgis. Swedish Vallhund is very similar.

They are more like folds, or wrinkles.

The owner said that the jeweler thought it was a cigar ashtray. I don't believe that, but it did look like it might have had ground in ashes in the bowl when I got it.

Now I'm thinking - cremation urn?

Call up Queen Elizabeth, she is a Corgi lover/owner.

There would be indications of a lid, so I don't think so.
