Mother of pearl

    hello recently was passed these 2 items from an old family members house.

    Think there mother of pearl butter knifes, not sure on year or what sort of value they are

    Could anyone shine any light or advise ?

    Welcome, John!

    Have you seen any marks (beyond the decorative) on the metal parts? Some of the better fish knives with MOP handles have sterling ferules (the band that connects the handle with the blade.) Sometimes the blades are also sterling, but more often they are silver plated. We can help you figure that out, but we'll need well-focused close-up pictures to do that.

    The ornate blades remind me of something from the 19th century. But I really don't know.
