On the wood it say's simpson douglas fir exterior do you think this is art deco?

 

If anything I'd think more Craftsman.

 

Did craftsman make metal like that?

 

Craftsman is a style. As long as it is in that style it doesn't matter I wouldn't think.
Could even be Arts & Crafts I suppose.
Unless you find a label this could be someone's project or even a kit.

I see some elements of Craftsman or Mission styling but, being metal, this is really just industrial/commercial. I imagine they were made the same way for a long time. If the plywood says something about exterior grade, I would think the top is a replacement. Old ones usually had solid wood tops.

 

I was thinking that all the 'extra' verticals were an attempt to mimic those styles.
It is also possible that base was for something else entirely.

 

Do you know how old this might be?

Think it was always a drafting table with the angle adjustment for the top. It could be as early as the 20s but could see this being made the same way for decades.

 

Unless seriously abused I thought the adjustment arc hand done.

 

Looks right to me. Might have originally had a knob instead of just a bolt. I doubt this was meant to be adjusted continually. You probably set it to your preference and left it. I see this as being used in a small shop or even in a school setting. Doubt a serious draftsman would have something like this.

 

The arc is very rough.
