Gotta love dealer mistakes Marko! I got a "sterling and blue topaz" ring last week that was 14k and aquamarine. It does happen. Church sales can be an even more fertile hunting ground for mistakes, but most times all you find are things that would be mistakes to buy.:bigtears: I found a few things this weekend at an estate sale ...mostly the mistakes. So I bought some.(sigh)

Pulled this out of thrift store today not sure if it's anything to look twice at but I liked it so I bought it for 2 bucks.

black glass dish - 3 footed - hexagon shape at top...tapers to a point at the bottom - almost completely opaque but a very bright flashlight held up to it does show a little dark purplish light. Some gold painting that is mostly gone ...and a pharoah/sphinx face as the finial on the lid... unfortunately his nose is nicked off on one side. Is this art nouveau egyptian revival era - or a modern repro/take on it?

Welcome to the forum aaroncab:) That is a very cool piece, I would have bought it too! I'm not an expert but I don't think this is new, how old I don't know. I'll have a look around and see if I can find anything on it.
You should post this is the pottery and glass section so those who know glass will be sure to see it.

Our church sales are already bought out of gold and most sterling before they open the doors by the other sellers.....

This is what else I got this week. I had a yearly check-in appointment in Philly this week, so on the way back, there is this antique mall that is open late on Wednesdays. They serve food, even, so what the heck, why not? Haven't found any mistakes there in awhile.

So I see this for $5, I almost put it back, but then I noticed the compass was done with Chinese characters Chinese Export Frog Ring Front.jpg

    Chinese Export Frog Ring Side.jpg

So I am thinkin' Chinese export, okay, I can do $5. I researched these online and the listing info is all over the place- Qing Dynasty, late 1800s, early 1900s, Feng Sui ring, etc. I think this is silver-plated, not sure.

Then, while I am chowing down on spaghetti and broccoli and salad (they even have wine there, I passed), I see this in a case
    Cameo 10k Monet Card.jpg
I know they aren't Monet earrings, they are cameo screwbacks, I saw some writing, I figure GF, so I grab them. When I loupe them in the car, they are 10k...and they were not even the price on the card.

Then the lady who sold me the garnet ring had this necklace
    Angleskin Coral Wheatons 2017.jpg
and she told me it was bone. I knew it was angelskin coral, and I thought the clasp looked like gold (I try not to loupe in front of people at the shows), and it is 14k.

This was sold as costume, silver and akoya pearl brooch
    Akoyas Wheatons 2017.jpg
This was in 50 cent bin, I like these old glass rings that were made to, at one time, look like the real deal
    Emerald Glass 50 cent ring.jpg
This was a whopping $5, sterling and a lab ruby
    Ruby Faux Wheatons 2017.jpg
and I got a few more things, but that is for later.

Me either. The Chinese enamel pieces pop up fairly regularly, but I've never seen a compass on a ring before. I found nothing much this weekend, but have been making stuff too. The first shot shows the things worth showing from an estate sale (ecch) and a trip through the last remaining halfway close Salvation Army. The silver beads were from the Sally - best thing I found. No marks, but the acids don't lie. There's a tiny 10k and pearl pendant, a purple dyed jade pendant, some silver earrings, and a ceramic West Coast souvenir pin. About $20 for the whole pile plus the few other things I picked up. DSCF3915small.jpg

The royal blue ones are dyed beads I finally got around to restringing. The lighter ones were a Christmas present (broken necklace) mixed into some random stuff I had handy. The light pink is rose quartz and crystal.

Evelyb, do you do knotting, or were the darker blue beads knotted? I want to restring, but I would like to use silk thread (I never liked the way the fishing-type plastic laid on me). Someday (in my spare time) I would like to learn the art of hand-knotting between the beads.

I knotted them onto waxed hemp cording; I've never tried the silk.

My aunt had one of those dodo birds. She had the little wooden monkeys, the lion with rope mane, all kinds of stuff in that style. When her apartment was cleared (early '90s) it all got tossed.

More thrift store finds. I keep buying glass, china, and pottery despite saying I am going to quit. It is hard to pass up when it is so darn cheap.

I have been seeking and buying furniture. Mostly beat up non-antique stuff to paint. This chair is the exception. Someone did a good job on reupholstering this and it looks like new. I was able to pick this up for $30.00.

    stuff1290.jpg

The fish is Mexican pottery by one of the Mateos family. Bought for $4.00. The turtle box is probably Asian. Bought for a buck. The dolphin is signed R. W. and dated 1983. Paid 75 cents for it. The bird was 50 cents and probably Chinese.

    stuff1291.jpg

This lot of Manhattan depression glass was bought at 50 cents per piece. Not sure why I need 11 berry dishes but at that price I could not pass them up. I know I have at least a couple of the master bowls somewhere so I can make up some sets. This is a pattern I actually like and use occasionally.

    stuff1292.jpg

The two large Fiestaware plates were $2.00 each. The luncheon plate was 59 cents, as was the bread and butter. The Russel Wright plate was a buck. I can easily sell the Fiestaware. The Russel Wright will go in my stash that I have had no interest in. Hard to believe how hard it has fallen off.

    stuff1293.jpg

These three perfect Hutschenreuth plates were 50 cents each at half price sale. Hard to believe that no one bought them at a buck each for three weeks.

    stuff1294.jpg
These double sided wheel cut design bar glasses are really intriguing. Maybe Czech? Bought for $3.00 total.

    stuff1295.jpg
The silver fade pitcher was $1.50. I have 6 of the matching glasses bought earlier to put with it. The red dish with metal rim is pretty interesting. I think the metal rim is probably nickel-silver since it was dull but not tarnished before polishing. It is stamped Germany on the rim. No other marks. The glass is a deep red and shows lots of wear on the bottom. I have no immediate use for it but couldn't pass it by at 59 cents.

    stuff1296.jpg
The dragonfly vase is modern. Bought for a buck. The James Thomson signed photo of the grand canyon was also a buck. The wire caged test tube vase was 50 cents. I had to supply the test tube from my stash.

    stuff1297.jpg
This acid etched copper faced print block is from the arts and crafts period. I may have overpaid at $8.00 but thought it interesting.
