    Trip,
Realize that the Mary Gregory vase is not old Czech. Westmoreland produced Mary Gregory up until 1984 and were known to make pieces in black. Are there other later reproductions? Import or other?

    Shiloh,
The slate table can be stripped and resurfaced but will just be boring grey. I would like to try and reproduce the original faux painting but think it would be too labor intensive to make it worth it. I am not sure what other options I might have.

Terry5732, I dearly love the "Brown Swiss" cow book of Walhalla Farms in New York state. What a great find!!!!

Wow, Walhalla Farms in NY sent their cows/heifers far and wide (all the way to Washington state and California). I especially like the entry re cows attracting attention at the (train) depot when they arrived.

I do wonder how many of those "farms" which bought Walhalla Farms Brown Swiss cows are still in the family or even still in business.

Wonderful find, Terry. The "Jamaica" information tells me that the Brown Swiss cows didn't have to be in cooler/colder climates. I don't think we had Brown Swiss cows in my vicinity.

Guernseys seemed to be the rule in this locale and all the milk and other dairy products were marketed as "Golden Guernsey" milk/dairy products.

    Hi Brad,
Yours is a Westmoreland and not a repro. I think the poster was trying to say it was not an old one, not that it was a repro.

    This is true(ish)

Due to EU rules about fertilisers on steep slopes, mountain pastured cows are not allowed to dump on the grass.

One farmer's answer a cow nappy on a brown Swiss cow.

Brad - flip the table top, wax it, and call it a day? Alternately you could get someone to put a decorative design on the faux marble paint, poly over it, and pretend it's supposed to be that way? A good old ivy stencil comes to mind.

Yes, that is what I trying to say quickly. Thanks Greg!

Thanks for the additional clarification on the Mary Gregory.

As for the table, the stone top is drilled on the underside for attachment so flipping it is not an option. The faux paint is only intact on one end. It is down to the grey slate and has water marks over 2/3 of it. Just leaving it is not a good option. I think stripping and resurfacing with a simpler faux treatment and stencils on the perimeter or corners would be the way to go if I keep the stone. Otherwise, a wood or tile top would be an option.

Great finds everyone! Looks like it's been a good week.
Here's what I got this morning...the only one I know much about is the Dresden:
Lucite snake sculpture (posted separate thread about this)
    Dresden Capodimonte style tumbler
    Japanese signed Cat netsuke
Cast Iron Guanyin bust (can't tell how old this is...looks old from the inside)

    Inside of the bust:

Thanks Sharona! Hopefully I'll be able to find out some info about them. It's so funny I am attracted to that snake sculpture even though I HATE and am TERRIFIED of snakes!

Sometimes auctions aren't fair. Like when the other bidders don't have a brain. I got these three as one group on the fifth choice out of a flat. I was the second highest bidder every time. First choice took a $2 piece of junk for $65. When I finally won it was at $17.50.

Could you do a shot of the back of the clock showing the movement. I can't think of any obvious way the strike could be so wrong (Chime is a combination of four or more notes sounded sequentially, a strike is just one note) unless it has a countwheel strike and someone has put the countwheel back backwards.

You probably can't really see anything in these pics. The strike mech is between the movement and the face. It seemed to be working as a repeater but is now doing nothing again. The button/lever for the repeater type function is on the opposite side in the third pic.

Great deal on the jewelry! Like the clock too!
Wish I knew Moon but the snake is unusual and attractive (for snakes)

I have never actually seen, let alone dismantled, an American carriage clock so I think the local carriage clock buying population bought exclusively from the French makers.

The erratic striking may be due to the rack sticking. The apparent pattern may be coincidence.

There seems to be a fair amount of stuff to Google about Waterbury carriage clocks.
