    Hi,
I picked this brooch up and trying figure out the maker, have searched for BE and RE and coming up empty. With the hinge and c hook would this be older?
    Any information appreciated.

You are amazing lucille, that looks like mine - thank-you:) Why I didn't see PE before is beyond me but that is what it is - I'll see what I can find.

I wasn't sure it was "PE", either. Just was the first one I tried. Got lucky!

    lol, lucky is great!
I've found a couple more the same as mine, also saying Italian, so I think this will be newer rather than older.
On 925-1000, PE is the abbreviation mark for Pescara Italy silver but the 800 should be in an oval cartouche so I'm suspect as to this being made in Italy.

To me it looks like a fancy scorpion. Could it be Mexico, Latin America or South America?

Looks Italian to me, typical of cast pieces made by Florentine makers like Peruzzi, Coppini, Parenti, Cellini, etc.; Peruzzi and Cini made similar sterling pieces in the U.S. The 'PE' is unlikely to be the province code, would be the maker's initials, the plain '800' mark seems to show up most often on pre-1934 pieces, would guess dating on this piece to 1920s-30s, newer brooches tend to have safety catches. Odd design, wonder if it was based on a cimaruta charm/amulet...

Oh my, this is pure serendipity!! I am the owner of the piece on Etsy, and I did hours and hours of research before I posted that description. My aunt spent much time in Italy so that was one of the reasons I went with the PE being the province code. I JUST joined this site, so I feel so excited to find my piece being used as a reference!!! Wonderful!!

Thanks Cheryl. I grew up with Yogyakarta silver and have a modest collection of my own. The Etsy shop in the link is ours, by the way.

You have some lovely pieces in your shop - I've handled quite a bit of Yogya silver over the years (keep a Wayang Kulit shadow-puppet spoon in my collection), but haven't seen those cast brooches before...

    Thanks again!
If you want a whole set of shadow-puppet spoons, I could get them for you. Possibly even just the other five to complement yours.

Appreciate the offer, one example is enough for me - my collection is primarily spoons related to particular subjects meaningful to me, though I like to have some pieces that are unusual or interesting...
