Thanks again, AF for the info.

I didn't pay much attention to this book to even notice 'Erste Aufgabe' translates as first edition.

    You're most welcome.

If you wish, you can have this book? It will probably mean more to you then it ever will to me. If interested, shot me an address, P.O. Box, storefront or wherever you would like for me to send this book to. Cool?

    Tyeldom3,

Your melon-shaped jar looks Japanese, first half of the 20th C. Your Yixing teapot was probably made in the last quarter of the 20th C. if not a bit later. Can't see much of the Buddha face to give any thoughts on.

Xc girl, thank you, that's very kind. I will look into Blenko. I don't know a thing about glass, so that's a great help.

Bercrystal, that's great advice! Maybe I'll start taking a second look at those chandelier's that go for low$. Thank you.

Nuff, thank you so much! That is very helpful, and appreciated. I figured the teapot wasn't anything good, but I had to buy it because of you :D. I think, later today, I'll post a thread about the melon shaped jar, because after a lot of searching yesterday, I think the mark might be fake :( And I'll put some pics of the Buddha head in there too.
(Oh and thanks for the term melon-shaped, I didn't know that either)

    You are welcome so much!

I wouldn't write that teapot off just yet if I were you. I gave a probable date of late-20th C. or possibly a bit later, but this dating doesn't mean the pot is junk. I just sold a 1980s Yixing pot for just under $800. So just because it was made in the last quarter of the 20th C. doesn't make it crap. There was one piece I believe a year or so ago, when we were at auction, dating to the 1980s and that piece sold for nearly $20K. These pots don't have to be "antique" in order to fetch really good money. The ones you want to go after are the pieces made in the 1980s on back. Even some pieces from the 1990s can fetch good cash.

Also, there's nothing "fake" about your jar. I might not know what the mark translates as, but a know your piece isn't fake. Below is a link to a very similar melon-shaped jar that sold for $98: http://www.rubylane.com/item/386639-RL-664/Japanese-Biscuit-Jar-w-Lobed-Melon

Last, I think your cast iron "Buddha" piece is a Japanese mask of a child. Probably dating to the first half of the 20th C. Again, I'm not sure what the mark reads.

    I hope the above helps?

The piece below is just exceptional! I normally wouldn't buy these, but this piece just stood out from the rest.

There are MANY late-19th and early-20th C. repro examples of this early-19th C. ware/decoration by: Mokubei Aoki (Japanese, 1767 - 1833), but I believe this piece speaks for itself...

(I took a number of different shots so you all can notice the difference.)

    Nuff,
I can appreciate the difference. I think I have learned a lot about what to look for with Asian porcelain from you through your posts. I just can't find any of it.

Here are some things found pretty recently. All are thrift store finds.

    This reupholstered ottoman was $5.00.
    stuff989.jpg

Large last supper PBN for $3.00.
    stuff990.jpg

Picked up a pair of these sauce boats for $1.00 each on a hunch they might be something good because of their ground and polished bottoms. Thought they might be an elegant depression pattern. Turns out they are later, by Indiana Glass, and don't seem to sell. The Verlys pinecone bowl for 75 cents was a much better purchase.
    stuff991.jpg
This large (approx. 12") Mary Gregory vase was $4.00. Maybe later production by Westmoreland?
    stuff992.jpg

This Falstaff musical stein was $3.00. Seems they sell reasonable well on ebay.
    stuff993.jpg

Will post more in another post.

Holey moley that's a tremendous help!! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know all that info:kiss:
I'll just start the yixing pot real low and see what happens. I don't expect it's one of the good ones, but a girl can only try! I appreciate your explaining that.
That jar in your link is nearly identical, and has a very good description too. The mark looks very similar also.
Thanks again for your help and very detailed, helpful info.

    Continuation of thrift store purchases.....

These stacking plywood chairs were $10.00 each. Unmarked but seem to be nice quality. Interesting feature is that they are hinged where the seat meets the back and flex when you lean back. Very comfortable. Better yet, they are already sold!
    stuff995.jpg

This iron and stone table was a great buy at $12.00. Very French Gothic looking delicate iron work. Unfortunately the top is in poor shape. Turns out it is faux marble painted on plain grey slate. Not sure what I am going to do about it. stuff996.jpg

Picked up a pair of these chests by Widdicomb and nightstand for $75.00.

Brad, that vase is very pretty.
Nuff, what is that piece you found? What are the reproductions of? It is very nicely detailed.

Lastly, forgot to post this painting. It is oil on canvas, though it is matted and framed under glass. Sight size is about 20" x 16". It is by a local Illinois artist by the name of Miriam Knowlton Corrie (1891- 1986). Painting is dated 1941 on the back. Bought for $20.00.

    You are most welcome.

I did a little digging and your jar mark reads if I'm not mistaken: "Dai Nippon Sei Zo" (Great Japan Made and/or Created).

Early-19th C. Mokubei-Kutani (IMO any way, I could be wrong).

Most of what you see on eBay and elsewhere are either fakes or late-19th and early-20th C. revival pieces of this early ware/decoration.

As I said, I normally wouldn't buy these wares, but this piece stood out from the rest.

'Nuff, I appreciate your very kind offer, but I couldn't possibly do that. I feel certain it will be an "easy to sell" item for you. It was sweet of you to offer, but I want you to keep it or sell it, whichever you decide to do.

I have included a link below to the "publications" division of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). It's possible that they may be (very?) interested in buying your book or perhaps could refer you to another "buyer." There is information provided on how to contact them.

Meant to add that I wouldn't be surprised if there could be buyers for it in the Philadelphia/Pennsylvania area.

    Nuff: Thanks for the lesson!
Brad: Really like flex chairs. From my seat your Mary Gregory looks like a repro.
