    Hi

I have a couple of items of Tribal origin that I would appreciate some advice/info on if anybody is able to identify them. One is a piece of hammered copper wall art which features some kind of female tribal figure and the second is a pair of wooden, hand carved spears that I presume would resemble the markings of a particular tribe. I have no clue about the age or origin of these spears other than the fact that they were probably used as ceremonial objects as apposed to weapons - I wouldn't imagine much damage could be done with these in battle or for hunting!!

They might even just be souvenirs, bought from a gift shop in Africa, i really have no clue but it's always nice to find out!

    Thanks guys :) DSC_0027.JPG DSC_0028.JPG DSC_0029.JPG DSC_0026.JPG

Not sure this will help you any, but have you tried searching for paddles or oars? Within the country you believe they are from. Of course you could be correct in thinking they are tourist pieces. Good luck.

The spears could be fish spears, but I suspect that all items are what is often referred to as 'airport art'. The copper bas relief is no style or medium I am aware of in tribal art (although that's not much) but the anti-gravity breasts and the loincloth cater to tourist tastes, not native tradition.

Yeah sounds about right, just wanted to clarify as I couldn't match them to anything myself. Thanks for the info

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

it could be BAULE , or SEUFO...or just a generic african woman....
the spears are likely just dance wands...of no tribal significance ...
