    I was looking at the inlay.
    So I could be very wrong.

    @Ghopper1924
    Forgot to say thank you for the very nice compliment:kiss:

    This appears to be rather small.
    Maybe Marrick could give us some dimensions.

    Yes, but there are no side drawers. That's what makes this so different.

    Unfortunately I won't be able to get dimensions until the lockdown ends but it is a relatively small desk. It can be transported in a hatchback car with the seats down if that helps give a sense of size.

    I have emailed local auction halls the photographs and I'll keep you updated with the outcome, likewise if I find out anything else about it's history.

    Hopefully other forum users might have some more views too.

    I think @Ownedbybear 's example of marquetry was spot-on for the O.P.'s desk and confirms a 1880-1900 date, although your point is certainly worth consideration..

    Hey, just the truth Ms. Cluttered. You have a vast array of knowledge for many types of antiques, and seem to be actively involved in obtaining more each day. One can only observe with admiration.

    @Ghopper1924
    Thank you.
    As I've said before, I know a lot about everything, yet nothing about anything.
    When it comes down to details, you are much better at them than I am.

    Some quick updates for everyone. I've had two replies so far from local auction houses.

    "Many thanks for your email I would suggest the late 19th Century Rosewood and inlaid ladies writing desk would have a pre-auction estimate of £150-200."

    The other just replied saying they've had one sell recently for £350.

    No further on history/makers etc.

    You'd have a goshawful time selling that in the USA due to the rosewood, but fortunately it's not being sold.

    Davey, I was referring to their ID of the type of wood it was. Someone else said it was walnut.

    My man identified it as Rosewood in my first post, and about close enough value too.

    Morning everyone. Another update.

    Dear Chris,
    Many thanks for the email and images of the furniture. It will date from around 1890 and it is in the form of a Davenport but is an unusual shape. I would probably catalogue it as a Ladies Bureau and I think I would achieve something in the region of £150-200 at auction

    Looks like most of you were bang on! Seems like a steal at that price, I'd buy more of them at that price if I found any more like it haha.

    Yeah, that sounds right to me. Desks of any style/era are a tough sell these days, they take up a lot of space and offer very little function.
    Very good news for you and others that can use them, a bargain for sure.

    And another reply -

    Thank you for the email and images.

    Estimating 19th century furniture is a little tricky at the best of times as the market is pretty unpredictable, but the item concerned is quite unusual and something not often scene for sale.

    I would provisionally look around the £150/250 mark for this at auction, it could bring a little more but I think something near this figure would be reasonable.
