    Yes, we saw that on the news. That is all very serious. The war has been going on for years now. And the fires are bad.

    We have had fires here as well, it is too dry, with too much wind. Some villages were evacuated, but most people have been able to return to their homes.

    should function with 220 VAC. on older ones better open the bottom and see - trial and error :) - if the steel feathers of the old mechanical relays are still doing anything.
    the warming up could take a while because it's not a heater in the modern sense but intended to keep the water warm only for tea.

    just in case... test the middle pin - the one that is not protected by porcelain - against the housing or any other metal part by resistance measurement (ohm). the best if it's broken or doubtful (broken porcelain etc.) - change the plug with a new one. as it is not in the official norm lists in Europe anymore, it's easiest to use the old DIN number; DIN 49491. if you can't get it, ask a European or search worldwide on ebay or amazon.

    The cord looks like those they could continue producing up to 1990s. We had an iron with a similar "woven" cord, which was made in the 1980s, I believe.
